![]() ![]() Think Mary J Blidge in the 90ˋs (she had other phases after). I think the « sloppy with intentionality » look that Billie Eillish is an exemple of is pretty much taken almost verbatim (to the point of copy) from the hip-hop / rap culture of the 90’s, but it’s a look that continued to exist into the early 00ˋs. Even Weebs have there own fashion trends. There’s severals for several customers/ subcultures/musical genre/ sexual orientation/ racial background/ social classes/ cities/ even hobbies. There hasn’t been just one look for decades. ![]() ![]() KK started being known in the late 00’s, she doesn’t define the aughts (2000-2009) Before that niche was occupied by Paris Hilton for exemple, who was pretty much a blond, stick-figured Kim K.Īlso there isn’t just “one current look”. Kim K is an archetype that is always existing somewhere here in the West (in-your-face, ostentatious, hyper-fem, openly sexual rich person: they show their bodies) but there’s always counter models that are more subdued, more tomboyish or more minimalists. I feel like your vision of the fashion from the aughts is restrictive, and your timeline is a bit wrong. I am glad my comment resonate with you! But I am afraid I pretty much disagree with what you just said. It’s currently everywhere, and I am not sure if we are not currently reaching a state of overexposure of the sweatervest. But I don’t find it that versatile, in all of your exemples, it’s an attention-seeking piece, the center of the look. it keeps the torso warm but a lot of ventilation going on. I like a sleeveless sweater best sometimes, if only for practical reason for some physical activities. A little pit of sloppyness is on trend: big shoes, oversized fit, floppy hats, 90’s style, … I feel like a trendy look currently is actually sloppy clothes than you accessorize with some bling (gold jewelry, shiny accessories) and visible, unnatural-looking grooming (fake lashes, nail-art, makeup, hair maintained with products …) It’s the other way around to me, it looks a little bit sloppy but in a way that’s currently on trend. Just my opinion: I have some sweater vests but I feel like the fact that it cut the silhouette rather than unifying it, actually makes you look less put together.
